Sobre o autor:
José Joaquim Cristino Teixeira Dias  concluiu o doutoramento em Química nos domínios científicos da Química Quântica e da Espectroscopia de Raman, em 1970, na Universidade de Sessex, Inglaterra.
Foi, desde 1980, professor catedrático de Química na Universidade de Coimbra e, desde 1996, na Universidade de Aveiro. É, desde 1991, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) com a distinção Chartered Chemist (CChem) e tem a designação Chartered Scientist (Csci) conferida pelo Science Council do Reino Unido, em 2004. Entre 1991 e 2010, foi membro do júri do Prémio Científico IBM.
